‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ Latin Spells Translated

By: Domonique Cox-Salberg

Anyone watching Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina likely, at some point, wanted to know the wicked spells and what they mean. So, being that most CAOS spells are in Latin and considering the context behind what Sabrina intended in the scene where it was used, they can be decoded. Therefore, this article will translate some of the spells used throughout season one of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

But before we start, some of the Latin in CAOS is not perfect or incorrect. However, it must be noted that for each historical period, Latin was different—some did not follow the rules, or it was broken, and we do not know which the writers were referencing or if they were putting their own spin on it. Nonetheless, keep an open mind and have fun with it.

Let’s dive in!

1.) “Dominus, Pater. Respice ad mea. ego creo facim.”

Translation: Master, Father. Gaze upon me. I create a light/torch that makes me conspicuous. -Used by Madam Satan to become Mary Wardell. (S1EP1)

2.) “Vos omnes ministri odey et destructiones et Seratore discorde. Et qui opera facitis et tracitibus, quod eat noce. Vos conjurae idex nos conjuo et odid fiat mier alve, Sabrina.”

This one is odd to translate since “y” is technically not used in Latin, and what I’ve found for the translation may confuse, so instead, remembering the scene and how the Weird Sisters use it points to it being a blood curse put upon Sabrina. (S1EP1)

3.) “Vola anima per aeterna”

Translation: Fly through eternal life. -Used by Ambrose for Astral Projection. (S1EP4)

4.) “Turpis et infernis in terris pariunt. Et furantur verba haec locutus sum vobis Laetitia. Punctum baculus parit malediction. Adiuro vos tamen hoc graecas munus.”

Translation: Since this one is definitely pseudo-Latin, it only makes sense in the world of Chilling Adventures. -Used as a demon trapping spell by Sabrina to control spiders and catch the demon Batibat with spiderweb (S1E5)

5.) “Ex spiritibus enim sie te aeris. Qui Omnipotentiam Tuam parcendo clavem ad. Ostium ligate Diabolum hunc! Hoc captionem, et daemonium ab grandus cincinno.”

Translation: The spirits, namely so, you of vapor. Who I wish to fasten with nails for the purpose of stopping your all-omnipotent quality. Oh entrance of the Devil(s), having been bound, here! I wish to fasten for the purpose of stopping your deceitful power to this place, and (you as a) demon of power by a lock of hair. -Used by the Spellman’s as protection so the batibat demon cannot leave their house. (S1E5)

Three stages to the Rite of Resurrection (S1EP8)

6.) “Nos si vocare te.” Translation: If you call us. -Used to awaken the Hounds / “Aperi ianuam.” Translation: Open the door. -It is used to open the door between worlds / “Vita est vita.” Translation: Life is life. -Used for sacrifice.

7.) “Redi ad periculum tuum.”

Translation: Return to your risk. -Used when Sabrina opened the portal to Limbo. (S1EP9)

8.) “Qui affecto protego, mixtisque iubas serpentibus et posteris meis stirpiqu.”

-Used multiple times as a protection spell. (S1EP10)
